Dr. Tzalis holds a Ph.D., from the University of California, San Diego (UCSD), an MS in Chemistry, from the University of Chicago, and an MS in Biochemistry, from Ball State University, in Muncie, Indiana, USA. During his studies at the University of Chicago, he was awarded the prestigious Nathan Sugarman Award, for “Excellence in Teaching Organic Chemistry". Prior to his graduate studies in the United States, Dr. Tzalis, completed his “Vordiplom” or Bachelor’s Degree in Organic Chemistry, at the Philipps University Marburg, in Germany, in 1992. He later, returned to his renowned Alma Mater in 1998, for a postdoctoral position in Organic Chemistry. Following this, Dr. Tzalis realized his dream, of a startup, biotech enterprise, Taros Chemicals in 1999, providing Medicinal Chemistry Services throughout Germany and Europe. Since the inception of Taros, Dr. Tzalis has been an active player in the European biotech scene, as well as a serial biotech entrepreneur, in his own right. He has to his credit, 16 publications and four patents. Dr. Tzalis is currently leading the Chemistry Consortium, of the €196M, pan-European, drug discovery project, of the European Lead Factory (ELF). He is, furthermore, a member of its distinguished Project Executive and Project Management Board.
