Jürgen Brem studied for a first degree in Biochemical Engineering at Babes-Bolyai University, Cluj-Napoca (Romania) and obtained a PhD in Chemistry from the same university in 2011. His thesis examined the use of new biocatalytic procedures for the enantioselective synthesis of 3-aryl-3-hydroxy propanoates. In February 2012 Jürgen joined the group of Professor Chris Schofield at the University of Oxford where he started working in the fascinating field of antibiotic resistance. His recent work has been dedicated not only to the development of bacterial metallo-ß-lactamase inhibitors, but also to enabling the discovery of new antibiotics, particularly the development of non-ß-lactam based antibiotics. In October 2015 Jürgen has been elected as a Junior Research Fellow at St Cross College, Oxford.
