Tomás Harrington is a Senior Research Associate at the Institute for Manufacturing (IfM), University of Cambridge. His research interests include product-service network design, configuring nascent networks for emerging technologies, and the mapping and analysis of value creation and capture in complex industrial systems and sub-systems. Current activities are focused on pharmaceutical sector transformation, through the adoption of digital technologies and continuous manufacturing (2011–present, UK EPSRC Centre for Innovative Manufacturing in Continuous Manufacturing and Crystallisation – CMAC), and the design of digital production systems in a series of commercial and clinical trial contexts (2014–present, UK BIS Advanced Manufacturing Supply Chain Initiative in Reconfiguring Medicines E2E Supply – ReMediES). In addition to his research activities, he has been significantly involved in a series of consultancy projects with leading multinational companies, and in the development of management tools for industry (focusing on e.g. network configuration, network integration and capability assessment, and organisational design). Before joining the Centre for International Manufacturing at the IfM in 2009, he worked in industry in a series of senior product design and engineering roles with Intel Corporation. He holds Bachelors and PhD degrees in Chemistry and an MBA (with distinction) for which he received a Chartered Management Institute award in 2008.
